Nate Thiel - Reading From Landscapes of the Sacred 3

“Since the dam forming the lake served the “higher” values of flood control, irrigation, electrical power, and public recreation, the Indians’ claim to a religious place could be ignored.” (Lane, 51)

To me, religion and God are merely excuses for things people cannot explain. All the places that are said to be spiritually sacred are hoaxes. People say that there are places where the Gods, or God, depending on the needed excuse, have performed rituals and miracles. The only real miracles are the ones that do not need explaining. Does it really matter how something was done? Is it really necessary for humans to explain everything they see? If someone needs to have an explanation for an event, then it is not a true miracle. When someone gets directly struck by lightning, and lives to tell the tale, don’t try to explain it, accept it. Do not say: “You lived because God wanted you to and He has big plans for you.” Otherwise, it takes away from the worth of the experience.
