Alan Warden- My Topic #4
For my final choice in topics i chose to write about Nascar. I was invited by my girlfriend to go to the Richmond Race this weekend. I have never been to any racing event in my life, and until about a 19 months ago couldn't have told you the first thing about racing. After watching races on television and learning about the sport i am excited to finally partake in the spectacle that it auto racing. Im excited to see this sport first hand and see what the environment is like. Nascar has the negative connotation of being a redneck, racist sport. While i cant argue against that, i can tell you that not only rednecks watch Nascar and not all fans are racist. While there aren't any drivers that i know of that are black, i do know of a Columbian, and an Italian. I am skeptical however about going to a race with my girlfriend. See is much more knowledgeable than me and her family is too. I will be like a fish out of water, i will have to learn quickly and try to not make a fool of myself with stupid questions. She did come with me to football games and has tried to understand the sport that i love. So i will try to do the same, plus i like learning new things and i am the king of random knowledge. While this doesn't really relate to nature, you can make the connection of human nature. People of all walks of life will come together on saturday to watch a sport they all like. Doesn't matter of your religious beliefs, your status, or anything, all is connected by the sport. While a race track isn't my sanctuary or sacred place, many fans live for race days.
