Adam Hahn- Choice Entry: 2
Bandwagon fans come and go just as the title suggests. At what point does a “bandwagoner”, go from a fair weather fan to a true fan without having the negative stigma attached to their fan-ship. As a military child I have relocated time and time again across this great country as well as spending a few years in Europe. Over sea’s the world of sports has been concentrated and simplified. Soccer is the favorite sport of the majority of European countries and allegiance falls to the teams from the city in which most people were born and raised. Fan ship in the United States is often scattered from city to city depending on the sport. Fanatics are in a sports utopia where on any given day they are able to tune into ESPN, ESPN 2, Comcast, FOX sports and hear experts analyze every move by athletes as well as the organizations themselves. What about for those who are only casual views? This question is raised from the recent hot streak by the Washington Capitals. Living around Washington DC offers a great deal of diversity and activities. These activities are not victory parades for great teams. After such a long championship drought is the growing fan base of the CAP’s a bandwagon? In my opinion no, following a dreadful season by the Wizards, a lackluster start from the Nationals and the same old well get it next year attitude of the Redskins there isn’t a bandwagon but a collective spirit of sports fans hoping for a Champion in DC.
