Jason Meulman Lanscapes of the Scared Part 1

Chapter One in the book Landscapes of the Scared is about the four axioms that define a sacred place. The first axiom states that a sacred place isn't chosen but it chooses. The second axiom states that an ordinary place is ritually made extraordinary. The third axiom states that a sacred place can be tread upon but that doesnt mean that it has been entered. Finally the fourth axiom states that a sacred place has a local and universal feeling. To me the fourth axiom is the most interesting. The example that was given in class was the memorial on top of the mountain in Europe which was dedicated to the many people that dead in the second world war. Giving it a universal feeling.
