Brynne Valla--Topic of my choice #3

Most people know the Dome of the Rock is a sacred site to Muslims and Jews. However, there are just as many people who do not know what makes this shrine a significant and an important place to them. I was thinking about a class lecture where Dr. Redick talked about the Israelites being in the desert, Moses having encounters with God on top of mountains and bushes, etc. Then I got to thinking about the significance and correlation between the Dome of the Rock and these different groups of people. For Muslims, the Dome of the Rock is a site where Muhammad ascended into heaven. Yet it is also the site which Jews believe Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son to God. I find it interesting that two conflicting religions both claim this land to be sacred. Furthermore, I find it interesting that the land itself is worth continuously fighting for because it is sacred. I think this reveals the importance and seriousness these groups of people revere sacred land.
