Tyler Million - Topos/chora
Lane often talks about the distinction between topos and chora. In class we talked about how as a culture we don’t recognize any difference among places, but I disagree. I think we do have a strong connection to certain places; our language however does not have a different word to describe this connection. It’s easiest to see this when we think about couples or close friends who have their own “spot”. Usually this place isn’t special in any way except to those involved. It’s also possible to apply many of the axioms of sacred place to these places. Whether fate chooses where a couple may meet, or where two friends always go whenever they see each other; these examples both follow two of the major axioms of sacred space.
