Kelsey Woods- Outside Reading 1

Flight.
Outside of class this semseter I read a book called Flight. Flight is a collection of comics from various authors with topics ranging from a ride on blimp to the meaning of life. I really enjoy this book becuase I think very visually, reading a bunch of words will only do but so much for me. One story that I really enjoyed was about a girl sitting on a dock on a lake. This was said to be the lake that was in an old Aesop fable. The girl sits and recalls the story to herslf: a man had dropped a pitcher in the water and a magical creature surfaced with a golden pitcher and asked the man if it was his, the man said no. The creature did this again two more times, with a silver and copper pitcher, the man denied owning both. The creature finally returned with the original pitcher and to thank the man for his honesty, he awarded him all four pitchers. The girl thinks about the story, and decides to knock her thermos into the water. The creature does the same thing with the girl, only when her thermos comes up and she thanks him, the creature simply says, "your welcome," and swims away. Moral of the story: Aesop works great on paper.
I think this is a great story because it shows that moral behavior is not always rewarded in grand fashion, but sometimes we end up right back where we started, with the same thermos.
