Kelsey Woods- OR 3
Of the course of this semster I also read a lot of classical philosophy. I was especially taken with the ancient greek philosophers view that everything was made out of four divine elemenets: water, fire, earth, and wind. They all had varying ideas on why each made up the world, or which was more powerful, but it made me think most about how they came to this conclusion. When you look at the world from their perspective, it can seem as simple as a few natural elements. I think that science and techonology has taken a lot of the mystery and wonder out of the world and in return created a world that is entirely too complex. Take the problem of darkness. The ancient greeks would say heres some fire. Whats fire? It bright and hot and from God, it was given to us, now use it. Now lets look at today. Its dark, turn on a light. Whats light? Well the light is the energy from the wall reacting in the filament of the light bulb. I understand the process the energy does through, I could take apart a lightbulb and name a few of the parts, but I can not tell you what energy is or what it looks like.
