Kelsey Woods- Experience
One night early in the fall semseter my roommates and I decided it would be a good idea to hop in the car, drive to VA beach, and go swimming, so we did just that. At about 10:30pm we parked the car and ran down the sandy beach to a life gaurd chair. We through our towles on the bottom rungs of the chair and headed straight for the water. The water got about ankle deep and all of a sudden I stopped. I realized I could not see my feet, the water was dark, very dark. I slowly waited out into the water trying to catch up to my roommates who had no problems and were already swimming where they could barley reach the floor. As the water got to my chest level, I freaked. I quickly got myself back on shore and tired to calm my nerves. Something about not being able to see what was floating around in the water in front of my terrified me. A shark could be a few feet away and I would not even know it. Granted, I knew it was VA beach and there weren't many sharks, if any, but still, something about that expansive black in front of me sacred me. This experience made me gain a lot of respect for the ocean. I now know that I love the way the moon reflects of the waves, but not when the waves are sweeping by me.
