"The ordinary is no longer at all what it appears. Common things, common actions, common relationships are all granted new definition because the holy has once and for all become ordinary in Jesus Christ" The Ordinary as Mask of the Holy Landscapes of the Sacred page 67
So I have never been a religious person. I was raised Episcopalian but my family and I rarely attended church, mainly on major holidays such as Christmas and Easter. I don't necessarily believe everything that is written in the Bible and I sometime question god himself. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that there is some sort of higher power but it's hard for me to believe that there is one person, one god deciding our lives for us. So when I read this I tried to re-phrase the quote. Instead of everyday things becoming ordinary through Jesus Christ I tried to just imagine the holy as a broad term becoming ordinary. I mean with the things that surround us everyday there has to be some grand design. Even just looking into my back yard and seeing the little bit of nature back there, things that I see everyday, makes me think that there is something more.
