Nicole Jacobs - New Topic: Lake Barcroft

Each summer my family and I drive to a small lake located only 15 minuets away from our home in Northern Virginia. This lake serves as a religious monument in my life due to its alternating images and home to natural wildlife. During the summer the beach inhabits children playing in the water and parents keeping a close eye, however, if an individual ventures away from the populated beach several aspects of nature are present that are normally hidden. When there are no crowds the sounds of frogs, birds and the water become overwhelming. Also, if you were to sit on the bank and closely watch the water you can see the ripples from the fish, or spot a turtle swimming and often times witness a family of ducks swimming in front of you. All of these beautiful aspects of nature are only presented when you are alone, quiet and unsuspecting. Each time I go to the lake to read or find time alone I encounter the most interesting aspects of nature.
