Nicole Jacobs - New Topic: Desert Night
Over the years my family and I have spent summers traveling west and camping across the country. Some of my most influential and spiritual moments have come from these memories out west, one of the most dominant occurred when my family and I spent a night the desert in Arizona. The drive out to our campsite was tedious and seemed uneventful, that was until I watched a thunderstorm rage violently hundreds of miles in the distance. Because the desert was so flat distance was difficult to determine so the storm appeared to be much closer than it actually was. despite the distance, the experience was already uplifting. Next, after my family and I had settled for the night my sister and I stayed up later than the rest of my family sitting at the campfire talking. As the embers died down we laid back and were awed by the amazing view of the stars. Being from the city our view of the solar system is greatly impaired, making our view in the wilderness magnified greatly. This separation from society and clouds of technology was completely eye opening and awing. This moment remains one of the most unsuspecting and enlightening experiences I've encountered.
