Melissa Morewitz- Topic of My Choice #4

My topic today is this job market! In the past 6 or so months I have applied for a number of jobs: Aldo, Banana Republic, Dillard's, Nordstrom's and a couple more. Not ONE of them has hired me! The only one that had the decency to tell me I would not be getting the job is Nordstrom's. I also recently applied for an internship at Nordstrom's at Mcarthur Center and after waiting months and hearing nothing back, I followed up today and they told me I had to be a current junior or senior! Why wouldn't they have told me that months ago so I could have been job hunting all this time! I thought the sensible thing to do would be to work at a retailer I like so I could get discounts but since I do not have tons of retail experience, they don't even think about it! How am I supposed to learn anything if I never get hired? The job market is so competitive that even as a 19 year old you have to be experienced in whatever field it is, even retail! My boyfriend's grandma owns a shop and she has always hired teenagers to work there. Recently, all she's had applying is adults and she cannot afford to pay all of them! This economy is ridiculous and it is impossible for anyone to find a job! How am I supposed to get my parents off my back about always getting money from them if there are no opportunities for me to work!! It is so frustrating and rude interviewers make me even more mad! It is their job to hire people they should at least pretend to be happy while doing so! So this blogging was more of a bitching but since it was topic of my choice, why not let it out!
