Melissa Morewitz- Making Nature Sacred #1

In Making Nature Sacred, Jonathan Edwards was quoted as saying "I felt God at the first appearance of a thunder storm... leading me to the sweet contemplations of my great and glorious God." This quote from his "Personal Narrative" immediately grabbed my attention because I felt like it fit in with my essay topic: spiritual experiences can occur anywhere in which people feel God, or a higher power's, presence within them. He claims he felt God at the "first appearance of a thunderstorm" meaning God's wrath was masked by thunder but he still managed to feel God. I think this applies to all natural occurrences whether it be a rain storm or flowers blooming: the presence of God can be felt. Whether you are in the middle of the Appalachian Trail, atop Mount Rainier or sitting inside your home watching the rain pour and listening to it hit your roof, you still have the opportunity to feel God's presence. Although we only talk about these experiences in the wilderness, I believe they can happen elsewhere.
