Lindsey Pritchett - Pantheism

One of the readings I did for the outside of class category was about Pantheism. (link) Basically, pantheism is a sort of religion where scientific aspects and beliefs of the creation of the universe, including ideas such as the Big Bang Theory and images taken from high powered telescopes, are revered as the divine. In summation: nature and the universe are deity - this is where we came from thus it resides inside of us.
I really like the idea of this Pantheism because it defines our place in the universe. It also takes what is commonly discussed in High School level science and physics classes and applies it to the sacred. Instead of making just nature sacred, it reveres the entire universe as sacred. Pantheism also has the idea of maintaining a "healthy mind, healthy body, healthy earth." Overall, the religion is very beneficial to the environment. They work to preserve mother earth rather than destroy it.
I find Pantheism really interesting because of their reverence for the universe as a whole. I like the idea of being able to view the entire universe on a macrocosmic scale rather than a microcosmic. I also have this inane idea that Pantheists sit out on their back porches in the summer air, stargazing their prayers to the divine. That, in and of itself, makes this religion a topic of interest for me. While I am not sure this actually happens, I find the idea of it enticing and thought provoking.
