John Weatherford- Landscapes of the Sacred #2

Lane describes three different approaches in understanding sacred place. Those three approaches are the ontological approach, cultural approach, and phenomenological approach. I feel like I was closely share the ideas of the cultural approach, but I also agree somewhat with the ontological approach. My opinions fit with the cultural approach in that a sacred place I defined as “a site over which conflicting parties disagree.” I feel that for a place to be considered sacred, people have to be willing to protect that place even if it means fighting or dying for. If I believe a place to be sacred then, I would be willing to do whatever it takes to protect that place. I also shared the idea from the ontological approach that, “a sacred place is radically set apart from everything profane.” A sacred place is different from its surrounds.
