Kim Robinson - AT hiking (topic of choice 1)

So before this class I had been interested in going hiking somewhere along the Appalachian Trail but my intentions were merely to go for a day or possibly the weekend. However, after being in this class and becoming closer to certain friends of mine who do enjoy hiking I've wanted to go more than ever. So when I found out that Prof. Redick leads a class on a two week hike on the AT I signed up. I'm not gonna lie I'm nervous as hell. I've never been hiking before other than like day hikes near Skyline Drive. Also, my deathly fear of snakes and spiders is helping to ease my calm. I'm nervous not because I fear for my life in some reason or anything like that. I'm not sure what to expect when I go on this. I'll be completely out of my element away from everything that i truly know. Other than some acquaintances that I see from time to time and a couple people in my class I don't really know anyone either. This is going to be a good growing adventure for me and I am excited. I just need to make sure I stay away from poison ivy or else my time hiking is going to be miserable due to how highly allergic I am to the dumb plant. If someone had asked me a year ago if I'd go hiking with them I would have said hell no even though I was dating someone who worked for NOLS (National Outdoor Learning School) and who hiked at least 6 months out of the year. Although now as the day to leave gets closer I feel like time is going to slow. I can't wait to go and get out there and be away from everything and experience something new. May 11th just needs to hurry up and get here.
