Alan Warden- Landscapes of the Sacred #1

William James's definition of religion is "one's total reaction upon life, so as to emphasize the way religion influences the whole of one's experience." This makes a lot of sense to me, like many in this world, i don't constitute myself as a christian, or buddhist, or anything. I believe that there is a god, there is that holy spirit that created everything, and that god whatever you may call him has a plan for everyone. I agree will James definition of religion because your religious views can be determined by your experiences in life and its impact can shape your life. I believe that every things happens for a reason, almost like karma. Things you do that are good will bring you good fortune but when a bad deed is done, typically a negative event in your life occurs. I also believe that everyone is equal, but your actions in life can create inequality. Its a persons choices that will create a void between them and the rest of the world. I believe that everything in life should be respected, from the bug that enters to your house, to your neighbor that never leaves his house. I am a typically not aggressive in my nature, i am very passive at heart. Sports are my arena to be aggressive and violent, but outside of that violence is not allowed. The phrase turn the other cheek, or do for others as you would want to be done for you, is standard in my actions. I will help others without second thought, and not look for the rewards. Sometimes in life, the greatest reward isn't money or a gift, its knowing that you helped someone without reward. It brings me back to my thought on karma, everything in life, has a equal and opposite reaction. I help others, and down the road someone will help me in my time of need. So am i a christian? Nope, a buddhist? Nope, a hindu? Nope, im a person who respects life and everything involved, I'm that guy that will get used by those that know my good natured heart, but thats okay. Life is usually good about giving people what they deserve, i hope that my my actions speak louder than words, and people will see above my religious affiliation, and see me as me.
