Tyler Million - Lane's diagram of tension
Personally I disagree with lane's diagram of the tension between space and place in American cultural life. The diagram puts freedom and threat at the top and bottom of the y-axis saying that the axis represents space and the sense of topos. On the x-axis has comfort on the left and constriction on the right; representing place and chora. While I agree with the categorization of space and place being opposed to each other, the thoughts attached to the end of each axis believe to be contradicting. As the diagram is it is then possible to be both comfortable and threatening, or free and constricted.
