Colleen Cook Masks

In Landscapes of the Sacred we read about how people wear masks as a way to conceal themselves from their gods or revealing themselves before their gods in disguise. It mentioned how for some people it was important for them not to have their face visible during rituals. Martin Luther also said how he thinks that God is wearing a mask at all times because we all would not be able to handle the naked and magical majesty in his lighted glory. There are others way representing ways to see God. For example through the bread&wine of communion. I read this and thought to myself that it could be true. God is not literally wearing a mask to hide the truth of himself from us but he doesn't want to scare us with all his power and glory. I believe that he has reasons for why he does things and when he does them but he can't tell us because they are his secret ways of communicating with us. That is what the taberknackle is for to in churches. God is there spiritually and we can use it to talk and listen to God. They reveal God to us but a concealed version.
