Ryan McGovern-Making Nature Sacred, Anne Bradstreet’s Meditation on the Creatures. 5-1-09
In Making Nature Sacred, Gatta has a section about Anne Bradstreet and her writings. There is a passage in there that talks about how she would “find refreshment from her domestic duties by taking solitary walks in the woods” (Making Nature Sacred, 40). These solitary walks proved to be quite influential in her writings. I find that walks in the woods can be very refreshing as well. While I do not go that often anymore, I used to run and walk on the Noland trail multiple times every week. It would be a great way to get away from all the stress of everyday life, school, work, etc. These walks used to be a great way to think about what I wanted to do with my life, because I had no idea at the time. But now that I have figured out what I want to do, these walks are not as important as they used to be. I guess it’s because I’ve become more content and happy with my life. But this is bad because now I may find new things in the wilderness because my mind will be completely focused on my surroundings, rather than whatever problems I may have been having in the past. So maybe I will start going on journeys more, and see what I find.
