In my leadership class, I was reading an article about the Golda Meir and the Jews. It was interesting to me how fervent the Jewish zeal was for a place that they could call home. They wanted their nation to a have a permanent place set aside for them. And not just any place would do; they wanted it to be Israel. It was their Holy Place. They had been living in exile for years, but they wanted their land back.
However, the Palestinians wanted the same thing. They had been living there for years, and it was their home. They, too, saw it as their Holy Place. Both peoples saw the land as sacred and neither was willing to budge. Yes, the Jews eventually won the dispute and have taken up permanent residence there, however, the matter is still no over in Palestine. Fights continue to break out between these two nations, and all because they are torn over the same sacred place. It is amazing to me that people would fight over something that I can't remember. But, it is worth it to them.
