Brendan McElroy – The Noland Trail

In celebration for their being such great weather, our class took a trip to the Lions Gate Bridge, and walked the Noland trial. The journey began while I road my bicycle down from my house to the bridge. It was such a calm and peaceful day, with the birds singing and the people on the streets smiling. The sky looked as if it was going to be a great adventure and full of sun. But by the time I got to the river, dark clouds began to spit out water on our heads. And before you knew it, it was pouring rain. The Rain put everyone out of the wilderness and into their cars, but it is interesting to think of why that is? Why are we scared of getting wet? Why does it matter if our clothes get wet? Rain is a part of nature which should be experienced too?
Anyways, we then went along our journey on the Noland trail, and Dr. Redick pointed out different views of landscape, different flowers, and had us decipher which plants were domestic and which were not. It was interesting because when we were left to go on our own, I paid specific attention to the plant life. I didn’t really pay any attention to the birds, or the water. I looked at different trees and analyzed how they were shaped. I looked at the colors of flowers and bushes, and tried to figure out how they got where they were. I spent the majority of my time in amazement over the plants. Which was different for me because I usually don’t pay that much attention to plants.
