Jessica Buhler ~The New River
One of the wildest and also the most sacred places in the United States is the New River gorge in West Virginia. The River has been viewed as a symbol of freedom and understanding for many years. Along the river, the history of it can be seen, much like the history of a person. A fossilized whale is washed up on the banks. A massive cliff has the face of a ram carved out the side of it. This ram, carved by a Native American, is to protect the adventures who partake on their journey down the river. Then the rapids come, where a person faces their fears and experiences natures at its wildest. Some who complete the journey say it is similar to completing a phase of life because of the rollercoaster like ride and the risk. They leave the river having a better understanding of who they are, and feel closer to God because they feel He help them make it through their endeavor.
