Alan Warden- My Topic #1

When i signed up to take this class i didn't care about the subject, all that mattered was ratemyprofessor.com said Dr. Redick was an awesome teacher. Also that the time of the class fit my schedule. Now however, things have changed, this class is more than a great rating on a website or a nice time slot that fit my day. It has helped me realize something important, there is more to life than YOU. This class hasn't converted me to be ultra religious or follow a career in religious studies but it has taught me that life is always more than what is seen. I have learned that nature is free and spontaneous, it can also teach you daily lessons. Nature, like life can bring unexpected changes, good or bad, but all of them will teach you something if you let it. Yesterday down at the lake, for the first time in forever i just let life come to me, not always trying to achieve a goal or task, but just letting life take its natural course. I enjoyed it greatly, free from the pressures of being a college athlete or student, free from the pressures of others, just me and nature. I think about how differently things might have been if i never took this class, i would have missed out on the opportunity to learn from a man thats seen it all, missed out on the fun discussions and jokes, but most of all i could have missed out on a unique life experience. The experience to try something new, something not everyone gets to do, the chance at seeing things from a perspective many never see. I got to expand my thinking process and learn about the delicate balance between nature and wilderness.
