“The more I looked, the more I liked it. And when I had more seriously considered of the beauty of the place, with all her endowments, I did not think in all the known world it could be paralleled... for in mine eyes, 'twas Natures Masterpiece: Her chiefest Magazine of all, where lives Her stone. If this land be not rich, then is the whole world poor.(53-54)”(pg. 29)
I think this quote really reflects how many people view places in the wilderness. People often hold onto there first impressions and base later encounters on how they first came to know a place. Often when I see a place I do not feel to strongly about it but as I visit it more and more often if often grows off how I originally preconceived that place. Once a place becomes some where you attribute beauty or something special you will always view it that way and it becomes increasingly harder to change your opinion or to imagine a place more beautiful in the world. If ever your place is called not the most majestic then the earth must be poor because if the most beautiful place is worth nothing then nothing else could have no worth.
