Justin Mawdsley-lane reading response

"to suggest that the connection was initiated as much by the place as by myself sounds magical...in the experience humans have of it." (page 41)

This makes me think about native american's and how they have a vast understanding of the land. It makes me think of nomadic lifestyles. That being the case, i can understand what the author is saying about the fact that scholars may not take into account spiritual connections wiht the land, like say a spirit quest should conjure up (going along with the native american allusion) but i really don' think that's the case. i don't think that you need to be that in touch with nature to get a sacred feeling from it. i think that people can interact with nature, and the world for that matter, on their own level and attain their own sacred feelings from the land, versus some predetermined set of emotions or thought that place is supposed to conjure up due to someone's heritage. I think that nature "talks back" to people in their own way.
