Our class met on the Noland Trail to learn one day. Since this course is all about nature, it was really nice to actually surround ourselves with it instead of sitting in a classroom learning about it. Walking the trail with classmates and Mr. Redick definitely took stress away from busy campus life. Although I had a lot going on that day, the hour that I spent on the trail was definitely needed. It helped me to relax and calm down before the rest of my day.
Many of us also got to experience wildlife that we normally would not get to see on a regular basis. Not only were there beautiful trees, flowers, and other vegetation, but there were also animals that we had experiences with. A few of us went to the bridge and fed the fish and the turtles some goldfish. I also saw a lizard, but unfortunately, it ran away become I could get a picture.
I feel as if this experience helped to connect the class. It was much easier to communicate with my classmates because we were free to walk and talk, and we were not stuck quietly behind our desks. I found out a lot about my fellow ULLC friends and we struck up some great conversations. Three or four of them are planning to walk the Appalachian Trail this summer with Redick. We talked about what they wanted to get out of the experience and how they would live for those two weeks. They were all really excited about the trip.
