Patrick Gordon- Lanscapes of the Sacred Reflection #2
“Split the stick and there is Jesus; lift the stone and one finds the Lord.” This sentence in Landscapes of the Sacred has always confused me. I suppose that is the way it should be right? I mean God is supposed to be so magnificent and glorious that there is no way that we can comprehend him. It brings to mind the man who says he’ll accomplish something tomorrow; morning turns into day, day turns into night, and as soon as it is almost tomorrow he wakes up to only find today…again. The catch with God is if we ever come close to understanding him, he slips right through our fingertips yet again. But In what I’ve just said, I may have found meaning in the quoted sentence. In one class, we talked about how Moses wanted to see God. God said o.k. but you can only look at my rear end as I pass by. This occurs and Moses receives this God-Like glow on his face and has to wear a veil so people can stand to look at him. Maybe I need to stop trying to searching for God as himself, for my face’s sake, and try to look for the trail he leaves in Nature; to try and find a mask that covers the holy. I need to go on a Nature Walk.
