Melissa Morewitz- Landscapes of the Sacred #1

One of the four axioms in Landscapes of the Sacred is "sacred place can be tred upon without being entered." This made me wander: if a sacred place is one which a holy presence resides in, how can someone who does not "enter" it consider it holy? Who knows if I have ever tred upon sacred ground because I may or may not have had a spiritual experience there! Does the sacred place remain sacred if it is only tred upon and are other places considered sacred to only some who enter them? Do we define a sacred place by the number of people who have entered it? I know sacred places have much religious importance but what about other places which have religious importance to only some, is it sacred on a smaller scale? When you read about the world's most famous sacred places, you automatically want to visit them to feel it's sacredness. Do only some have the ability to feel it's presence and some will never feel it?
