Brynne Valla--Making Nature Sacred #3

One unifying theme throughout Making Nature Sacred I see is that of natural revelation. I am currently in a religious studies class this semester that often explores natural and special revelations. It seems as though many of the examples used in Making Nature Sacred rely on natural revelations, that anyone can find God anywhere in Nature at anytime. This more liberal view on revelations contrasts with special revelations, that God is only found in certain places by specific people--it is not for everyone to have these revelations. I see both sides to these takes on revelation. I am not sure which side I lean to myself; I think I would fall somewhere in the middle. However, I find it interesting that all the examples focus on natural revelations and how God is in every part of creation. This means that creation can teach us something about God or about ourselves. While I am not sure I could have a revelation just pondering a pine tree in the wilderness, I do see the validity of the claims that natural revelation is essential to experiencing God when in the wilderness.
