“…when we glimpse what seems most familiar to us with wholly new eyes, remind us that time – like place – is also experienced in multiple dimensions” p41
The quote goes on to talk about kairos and chronos and how when the two moments come together it is an encounter of wonder. I wonder sometimes where people get ideas like this. The authors of the books for our class and even other very spiritual people talk about certain events and moments in their lives that seem almost magical. It makes me wonder what they are even talking about at all because I don’t feel like I can relate with them in any way. I have never had a moment like the ones they describe and I honestly can’t see myself having one. Maybe this is because they lead very different lives than I do. I am a college student in a populated city. I don’t go out on adventures and into the wilderness. But what else do these people do that I don’t? How are they experiencing such crazy things and I am jut living what seems an ordinary and average life? When I traveled to Peru, it definitely was a life changing experience. But not once during the trip did I stop and look around in a specific moment and think to myself, this is a magical experience, this is when kairos and chronos come together. It just makes me skeptical. Perhaps if I had one of these experiences, I would better understand where these people are coming from, but I think in order for this to happen, I’m going to have to go out into the world a little bit more.
